Gait Analysis
Our clinic treats many endurance athletes that present with a myriad of conditions. For complete correction and prevention of these conditions, a biomechanical analysis may be necessary to evaluate that runner’s gait (running form) and correct the faulty mechanic.
“I was running 30 second faster miles AND my heart rate was 10 bpm less than before” - J.L. Ironman athlete
"After the gait analysis, a change in form helped correct a chronic foot/ankle problem and has increased my speed in a short amount of time. It is helping to get me out of the speed rut that I have been stuck in." - K.M.
Common Conditions Associated with Faulty Running Mechanics:- Iliotibial Band Syndrome (IT Band Syndrome)
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- “Shin Splints” or posterior tibial tendonitis
- Periostitis
- Patellar Tendonitis
- Trochanteric bursitis/Hip rotator tendonitis (Lateral thigh pain)
- Sacroiliac joint pain
- Low back pain
- Running Inefficiently
A video tape of the runner in a variety of speeds (i.e. 5k, 10k, marathon paces) is obtained and then we evaluate it frame by frame as we look for a breakdown in mechanics. We evaluate things such as trunk position, head oscillation, shoulder/arm swing, hip rotation, knee bend, heel strike at heel strike, mid-stance, toe off phases of the gait.
A consultation is then held where we can show the runner their mechanical faults and we work on implementing corrections as the runner progresses.
Book your Gait analysis today and we will get you efficiently running before you know it!
